Why don't my Spotify for Artists stats match, and is Spotify discounting real listens?

Spotify isn’t trimming real listens. The numbers differ because each one counts something different, on a different clock.

Start with timing. Spotify’s page on when stats update says stats refresh once a day at about 5 PM ET (9 PM UTC), and days run on UTC. A song that drops at 7 PM Eastern shows nothing for release day. Only new releases get a live stream count, for their first 7 days.

Then the 30-second rule. A play that stops before 30 seconds isn’t a stream, so it never shows up. Our FAQ on streams vs listeners covers what counts.

The time windows differ too. Monthly listeners are a rolling 28 days, not a calendar month, as our monthly listeners guide explains. And a song on both a single and an album counts toward each release’s total.

Your distributor’s numbers come from a separate feed. DistroKid’s help page says its Daily Stats come from “trend reports,” while earnings reports take about 2 to 3 months to arrive. Free trials and promotions can make the two differ.

Spotify does remove plays it confirms as artificial. Its artificial streaming guide says public counts always get corrected, but your private dashboard may still show the spike. It also calls your distributor’s royalty report “the most accurate source of truth.” If you suspect bots, our page on fake streams shows where to look.
